    Remarks:
See IAS files for related newspaper clippings and a booklet on the sculpture published by the Italian-American Memorial Committee, n.d. The idea for the memorial, designed to commemorate the Italian immigrants who contributed to the Barre granite industry, originated in October 1982. A committee, the Italian-American Memorial, Inc., was formed and in the next three years raised more than $55,000 to cover the costs associated with the creation, production and erection of the monument. Donations came in from 24 states, Italy and Chile. To acquire tax status as a charity, the memorial committee was required to designate an individual to whom the monument would be dedicated. Carlo Abate, a Barre resident since 1899, carver and teacher, was chosen. The statue was designed by Elmo Peduzzi, modelled by Giuliano Cecchinelli and carved by Philip Paini. The sculpture is sited in Dente Park, in the section of Barre where Italian immigrants established their homes.
