Remarks:
From Jan. 20, 1885 letter written by Annie I. Crawford to Caroline Dall, found in the Caroline Wells Healey Dall Papers, Massachusetts Historical Society. Annie I. Crawford wrote: "I have sold my last ‘Italian girl.' Finished before Christmas the three portraits that had been ordered for Christmas presents. One of them being of Mrs. Utley, she gave to her husband. One of Mrs Lockwood’s little girl. Mrs. Lockwood also bought two pictures of mine. The last of the three portraits was of little Harry Jewett. Mrs. Josiah Jewett’s little five year old boy. The carved frame you saw in the studio was for Mrs. Utley’s portrait. I cannot tell you how well it suits it. Mrs Lockwood is having one made for her child’s portrait."
