Katherine Mary Trippe was born in Fort Buford, North Dakota on Jun 1, 1895, the daughter of Capt. Percy Edward and Lydia Rachel (Meiner) Trippe. Her father was on active duty as a cavalry officer and moved the family around the U.S., and to the Philippine Islands. She settled in Arkansas sometime in the 1960s. Her married name was Whitaker.
