Description:
Full-length portrait of the Duchess of Sutherland (1867-1955) standing on a path in a wooded landscape with her right hand resting on an ornamental basin. She wears an aquamarine evening gown decorated with white roses and a white underskirt. She wears a wreath of laurel leaves on her head.

Remarks:
The Duchess (nee Millicent St. Clair Erskine) was married to Cromartie Sutherland Leveson-Gower (acceded to fourth Duke of Sutherland in 1892). After his death in 1913, she married Major Percy Desomond Fitzgerald in 1914; They divorced in 1919 and she then married Lieutenant-Colonel George Ernest Hawes.
