    Remarks:
The sculpture was created as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project in cooperation with the history and landmarks division of the Women's Service Auxiliary of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. The sculpture was installed in the Santa Anita recreation area, which is now called Arcadia County Park. Hugo Reid was an early pioneer who became grantee of the entire Santa Anita Rancho in 1841 through his wife, a Gabrielino Indian who had received the right to 13,000 acres of land due to the Secularization Act of 1834. Hugo Reid was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1849, which brought statehood to California.
