Remarks:
Mary Morris Wharton Johns was born on Oct. 10, 1815, the daughter of Dabney M. and Anne (Swann) Wharton. She married Alfred Johns in 1835, and moved to Chevy Chase Plantation, Hinds County, Mississippi. She died a widow in 1901 at the home of her daughter in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The portrait, which was painted by an itinerant artist at the Wharton Plantation in Virginia, was formerly in the collection of Mrs. W. H. Cooper (Bonnie Johns Lemly).
