Formerly in the collection of Annie D. Granger, the late, Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, New York until 1946.
Remarks:
Virginia Granger was the sister of Annie D. Granger, the former owner of the portrait. Virginia Granger was a member of a prominent Buffalo, New York family. The portrait was likely painted before Virginia Granger's death in 1907, and after Crawford's earliest known portrait done in 1869. The portrait is mentioned in the Buffalo Courier-Express, April 20, 1927, in an article about Virginia Granger's sister Annie D. Granger: "Two other interesting portraits are those of the late Lieut. Col. Warren Granger and Virginia Granger, brother and sister of Annie Granger and the work of Annie Crawford, one of Buffalo’s most gifted artists."
