Mary Ann Garrits, (painting). Artist:  Spencer, Frederick R., 1806-1875, painter. Title:  Mary Ann Garrits, (painting). Dates:  1834. Medium:  Oil on canvas. Dimensions:  33 x 26 in. (83.8 x 66.0 cm). Inscription:  (On back:) F. R. Spencer, 1834 signed Description:  Seated portrait of Mary Ann Garrits, the daughter of Robert Dugan from the north of Ireland. She wears a black off-the-shoulder dress and many pieces of jewelry. On her left hand she wears three rings and on her right hand she wears at least one. On the front of her dress there is a gold chatelaine, a pin with a chain from which hang two little bells. Around her neck she wears a string of coral beads. There is an oval cameo pined sideways at the neck of her dress, and she wears cameo earrings. In her hair she wears an elaborate comb. Behind her is a red damask curtain and a window with a landscape view.
