    Description: 
    This portrait of Elizabeth Eggington, one of the two earliest-known date seventeenth century New England portraits, was executed just before or just after the sitter's death. She wears a Holland hood, a white apron, and an elaborate gown adorned with yellow, green, and red bows at the elbows and neck. For jewelry she wears a gold and pearl pendant necklace and a portrait miniature of a man. In her left hand she holds a white feather fan.
