    Remarks: 
    Clara Strong Cooper was eighteen years old when this portrait was painted. She was born on Sept. 7, 1861 and died on July 7, 1935. She was the daughter of Felix and Annie Maurice (Smith) Strong. After the death of her father from Civil War injuries, she and her sister and mother lived with the Smith grandparents in Tulip, Dallas County, Arkansas. In 1878, the family moved to Malvern, Arkansas. On July 13, 1881, she married Joseph Whitaker Cooper in a ceremony conducted by Rev. A. R. Winfield. She wrote several historical publications dealing with Malvern. She designed the iron memorial gates for Tulip Cemetery in 1835.
