Description:
A square shaft engraved with a bust of Christopher Columbus is topped with a globe representing the world. Before Columbus are depictions of his ships the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria sailing on before a rising or setting sun. The shaft has a rough-edged bottom tier and is placed upon a square foundation.

Remarks:
The monument commemorates the 500th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America, and was erected by the Schenectady Columbus Quincentennial Committee. It was funded by Charles Drago, Jr., Joseph A. Drago, Dr. Eugene Drago and Lorraine Drago to honor their parents, attorney Charles J. Drago, Sr. and his wife Florence; by Tomasina Vacca and John D. Marcella to honor their father, businessman John L. Marcella; and by Schenectady's Gabrielle D'Annunzio Lodge 321, Order Sons of Italy in America to honor its members past and present. The monument was installed by A. Mastroianni Construction Company. IAS files contain: copy of dedication program; press release dated Oct. 23, 1992 from the Schenectady Columbus Quincentennial Committee.
