Description:
A portrait of John Brown seen standing with his proper left foot forward. His raised proper right hand is clutched around the strap of his Beecher rifle which is slung over his proper right shoulder. His pants are tucked into his cavalry boots below the knee. His shirt sleeves are rolled up to the elbow. His hair is combed back and is nearly shoulder-length. His beard appears to be blowing in the wind.

The sculpture was erected by The Woman's Relief Corps of the Department of Kansas' Auxiliary to the Grand Army. Nearby plaque reads: John Brown/Statue/1935/Cast by the Borbedine (sic)/Foundry in Paris which/made the Statue of Liberty. Other nearby plaque reads: PLACED - MAY 12 - 1940/BY/DEPT. OF KANS. WOMAN'S RELIEF CORPS/HONORING TWO CIVIL WAR VETERANS/COMMANDER OF THE GRAND ARMY/T.B. WILLIAMS/AND/MEMBER OF FIRST JOHN BROWN PARK BOARD/MAJOR - J.B. REMINGTON. IAS files contain a copy of souvenir program from the sculpture's unveiling ceremony.
