Description:
An eagle with wings spread stands upon four combat helmets which are draped with dog tags. The sculpture stands on a tall pedestal on which a poem is inscribed. The work is located in an oval planting area with a brick-paved plaza around it. A poem entitled "Soldier," by George L. Skypeck is incised on the front of the base.

Remarks:
Commissioned by the Veterans Advisory Council with a $31,350 loan from the City of Columbus and an additional $10,000 donation. The idea was initiated when veterans took exception to the Vietnamese flag displayed with other international flags at the airport. IAS files contain a related article from the Columbus Dispatch and the text of the poem "Soldier," by George Skypeck, which appears on the base.
