A large angular ground plate slopes toward a depression running diagonally through it and has a number of protruding forms, or slabs, tilting upward from it.

Remarks:
This work was a memorial to Illinois poet and historian, Carl Sandburg, and was commissioned by the B. F. Ferguson Monument Fund. The work was inspired by several lines from Sandburg's 1922 poem of the same name.
