    Description: 
    A relief plaque bearing the text of "The American's Creed" by William Tyler Page, with an eagle and an allegorical figure grouping. The allegorical figures include a central female figure of Liberty holding a banner aloft in her proper right hand, flanked by figures of uniformed soldiers who appear to be marching. A shining sun can be seen in the upper background.

    Remarks: 
    Erected under the auspices of the Womens Relief Corps of Spencer, Indiana. The plaque is placed within a pavilion constructed around the 1890s. Approximately 200 stars with names of veterans, primarily from the Civil War and World War I, are placed throughout the pavilion. "The American's Creed" was written Walter Tyler Page of Washington, D.C. as part of a national competition. It was adopted by Congress in 1918. IAS files contain a brochure from American Doughboy Studios, Spencer, Indiana, which titles the piece "Spirit of Americanism."
