Description:
An interior scene depicting a wan female figure seated low in a chair, her arms resting on the arms of the chair, a handkerchief held in her left hand. Seated on the floor beside her is a somber man with his hand raised thoughtfully to his chin. In the background a female figure plays a piano, presumably the hymn "Jerusalem the Golden," written in 1851 by John Mason Neale and set to music in 1853 by Alexander Ewing.
