    Description: 
    In a scene from "The Light of the Harem," the fourth tale in "Lalla Rookh: an Oriental Romance," (1817) by Thomas Moore, the female figure of the beautiful Nourmahal stands at center in an imaginary landscape with a gazebo on the left and a fountain on the right. In her hands she holds a lute, which she has asked an enchantress to enable her to play and sing so well that she will regain the affection of her lost lover Salim.

    Remarks: 
    This painting is now known to be a forgery. Ryder did a painting titled Nourmahal, but it is now unlocated, and there are no known contemporary illustrations or descriptions of the work.
