    Remarks: 
    The sculpture is named "Ishmael" after the character in Herman Melville's "Moby Dick." It was originally titled "Circle C," and was first exhibited at the Schenectady Museum in 1969. The sculpture was loaned to the Schenectady County Public Library in Nov. 1971, and purchased by the library around Oct. 1972. It was given a new concrete base in Nov. 1972. A plaque on a nearby wall reads: ISHMAEL/by ARLINE SHULMAN/ON PERMANENT LOAN/TO THE/COUNTY OF SCHENECTADY. IAS files contain: a news release of Nov. 19, 1971 from the Schenectady County Public Library; an article from The Union-Star - Knickerbocker News, Nov. 22, 1972, pg. 10-A; correspondence from the Schenectady County Public Library dated Nov. 27, 1972; and correspondence from The Schenectady Museum dated July 18, 1980.
