Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by the South Shore Convention and Visitors Association to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1983 film "A Christmas Story" based on Hammond, Indiana native Jean Shepherd's short story. The sculpture cost approximately $40,000 raised through donations.
