    Remarks:
The idea for the monument originated at a July 21, 1896 meeting of approximately fifty members of the Burns Club of Barre. This social and literary club raised funds for the statue. The statue was conceived and modeled by J. Massey Rhind; the four panels modeled by James B. King. The statue was cut by Samuel Novelli at the firm of Barclay Brothers. The panels were carved by Eli Corti. The Barclay Brothers Quarry supplied the granite for the monument. The work is sited on the grounds of the Spaulding Graded Middle School, formerly the Spaulding High School. IAS files contain photocopy of Jan. 1993 article from Scottish Field, which gives history of statue.
