    Description: 
    Portrait of Robert Burns standing with his arms crossed and his proper right leg forward. He wears knee-britches and a waistcoat. Inset bronze relief plaques on the sides and back of the base illustrate verses from various poems by Burns. The relief on the proper left side of the base depicts a family of six figures, grouped in front of a stove while the father reads. The relief on the back of the base illustrates dead souls trying to catch time, represented by a rider on a fast horse. The relief on the proper right side of the base shows a farmer with two horses and a plow in a field.

    Remarks: 
    Robert Burns (1759-1796) was a national poet of Scotland. This sculpture is a cast of the Robert Burns sculpture by George Anderson Lawson that is located at Ayr, Scotland (Burns' birthplace), and was unveiled in 1891. This cast was erected by Detroit's Burns Club and the Jean Armour Club (Ladies Auxiliary Club). The sculpture was dedicated 1921 with a parade led by Walter Scott, a descendent of Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832).
