Description:
A tall, narrow pyramid with four stages of approximately equal height. The bottom two stages are composed of four blocks joined in the middle of each side. The third stage is a truncated square pyramid. The top stage is a smooth square pyramid made of metal, possible bronze. The sculpture is charcoal colored and stands on a square, stainless steel base.

Remarks:
The sculpture was selected and commissioned by the Library Board of Trustees. The first lines which are incised on the surface of the sculpture were submitted by library patrons and selected by a library committee. SOS! survey gives title of sculpture as "New Beginnings"; IAS file copy of dedication ceremony invitation cites title as "Discovery"; Shenendehowa Public Library news release (Sept. 30, 1991) cites title as "Beginnings". IAS files contain copies of related artist's proposal, dedication ceremony invitation, and Library press release. IAS files contain transcriptions of first lines incised on surface of sculpture.
