THIS MON-/UMENT IS SITUATED 334 YARDS EAST/OF THE SPOT WHERE HE BUILT HIS/LOG CABIN IN 1785 ON THE EAST BANK/OF THE LEHIGH RIVER. HE FOUNDED/WEISSPORT IN 1838 AND IT WAS/NAMED IN HIS HONOR./ALSO TO THE MEMORY OF THE/SOLDIERS AND SAILORS WHO FOUGHT/IN THE SEVERAL WARS FROM THE/REVOLUTIONARY TO THE WORLD/WAR INCLUSIVE./ERECTED BY THE SECRET OR-/GANIZATIONS OF WEISSPORT AND/GRATEFUL FRIENDS. Description:
Full-length figure of a World War I soldier. He wears a uniform including lace-up boots, trousers, jacket, soft brimmed hat and a pack. His arms are crossed in front of his chest. The marble sculpture stands on an oblong rough-hewn granite plinth which rests on a single rough-hewn granite step.

Remarks:
The sculpture and monument are dedicated to those who fought in all wars, from the Revolutionary War through World War I. The sculpture is dedicated in memory of Jacob Weiss, founder of Weissport. The sculpture was funded by the secret organizations of Weissport and members of the public. The bronze commemorative plaque on the base of the monument was given by Mrs. Magina Kistler Mantz in memory of her father, P. J. Kistler. IAS files contain copy of related article from Evening Leader (Lehighton, PA), Nov. 11, 1925.
