IAS files contain photocopy of article from the Times-Picayune (New Orleans, LA), Sept. 21, 1979, pg. 15, which states that the sculpture is a memorial to philanthropist John Nelson Weinstock, and was made possible by spontaneous donations following his death in 1977. Artist Lin Emery, a friend of Weinstock's explains that "the moving flames have an abstract connection with the spirit in all his endeavors." Nearby plaque reads: Memorial to John Nelson Weinstock Former President of the Jewish Federation and the New Orleans Museum of Art. IAS files also contain photocopied information from Charlotte Streifer Rubenstein's "American Women Sculptors," Boston: G. K. Hall & Company, 1990, pg. 390.
