    Remarks:
The idea for a "place of remembrance," originated in 1988 with a City resolution passes April 18, 1988, and the formation of a committee, which in 1990 became a separate non-profit foundation. The memorial was dedicated in memory of Raul Wallenburg, a University of Michigan alumnus who rescued thousands of Jews from deportation to concentration camps, and is placed on the site of Michigan's first Jewish cemetery. The statue's dedication coincided with the Hillel Foundation's 18th annual Conference on the Holocaust. IAS files contain copy of dedication invitation; and related newsclippings from Ann Arbor News, May 8, 1993, and March 14, 1994, pg. C1, 3. IAS files also contain copy of Ann Arbor Holocaust Memorial Foundation, Inc. Chronology of Events.
