    Remarks:
The memorial faces a small flying field and was erected as part of the Federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) program. IAS files include citations to related newspaper articles: The Aberdeen Examiner (Feb. 4, 1932), (Dec. 17, 1936), (April 24, 1975), and (Oct. 10, 1990); The Commercial Appeal Oct. 14, 1936; and The Clarion Ledger/Jackson Daily News April 28, 1985. The work commemorates Eddie A. Stinson Jr. (d. 1932), pioneer pilot. He received one of the first pilot's licenses issued in the U.S.; held several flying records and was owner of Stinson-Detroit Airplane Works, then the largest airplane factory in the United States. Stinson's family was from Aberdeen and after his death, the City of Aberdeen together with the Works Progress Administration built an airport for the city (at a cost of $10,000). The airport and memorial were dedicated to the memory of Stinson on Oct. 13, 1936.
