Remarks:
Gift of the artist and Mr. & Mrs. Stevan B. Smith in memory of Marvin Cone, a painter and faculty member at Coe College and Isaac Butler Smith, a trustee and alumus. The base was designed by Whiting and built by Loomis Brothers Construction. This is reportedly the first major sculpture on campus. The artist was inspired by the pattern which reticulated cerite makes in a mineral. The design of the sculpture reflects the architecture of the Dows Fine Arts Center. IAS files contain a press release which contains the text of the poem on the base.
