The artist created "Dreamer of Realities" in July 1982, as a tribute to William A. Shea, former Baseball Committee Chairman under Mayor Robert F. Wagner, on his induction into the Long Island Hall of Fame. Under Shea's leadership the New York Mets were formed, and Shea Stadium is named in his honor.
