Inscription:  (On back of gravestone, inscribed:) Ben Shahn/Benjamin Zir Shahn/Artist/Born/September 12, 1898/Died/March 14, 1969 (A stylized rendering of the Hebrew alphabet is in bas-relief near the bottom of the gravestone.) Description:  Gravestone consisting of a smooth truncated column. The top of the column is cut off at an angle. On the front face of the round column is a bas-relief of "Alphabet of Creation". He designed the "Alphabet of Creation", a stylized Hebrew alphabet, which became his signature work. The gravestone was designed by Bernarda Shahn, wife of Ben Shahn.
