Remarks:
Funded by the Children of the Reformed Dutch Church. John Scudder, 1793-1855, was a missionary to India for the Reformed Dutch Church from 1819 until his death at the Cape of Good Hope. His wife, Harriet, 1795-1849, accompanied and assisted him until her death at Madras. Because some inscriptions were worn, the surveyor was unsure about the dates of Harriet and spelling of the artist's name--the latter, listed as: L. VERH(N?)AECEN/N.Y. Sculpture was removed from Hertzog Hall at Seminary Place, New Brunswick, in 1862.
