(Incised on edge of center stool:) Claiming that he had lived as a free man during his family's stay at/Fort Snelling, Dred Scott sued for his freedom. This case went before/the Supreme Court which ruled that despite his time on free soil/he was still a slave and not entitled to the rights of citizenship. Description:
Cruciform shaped monument composed of twelve tiles with a stool at the center. The tiles are in the ground, three on each side of the stool. Four of the tiles have incised text and the others have a variety of designs, including the outline of a human figure, pieced on a row of three tiles.
