    Remarks:
The shadows cast by the spheres and poles line up with the shadow patterns on the ground at 9:32 A.M. each year on August 1st, the day William Henry Ross acquired the land that became Rosslyn in 1860. Funded with a National Endowment for the Arts, Art in Public Places grant of $18,000 given in 1978 to the County of Arlington. Additional funds were provided by the Rosslyn community. The sculptor coordinated with developer J. W. Kaempfer, Jr., of The Kaempfer Company, in integrating the design of his adjacent building, Park Place Office Building. In return, Kaempfer increased the budget of Dark Star Park by $50,000. For related information see: The Washington Post, Dec. 9, 1993.
