Funded by private donations through the efforts of Mary Collette. The lion is a memorial to Bob Reynolds, a Springfield policeman who committed suicide. Mary Collette of Collette Studios is responsible for the landscape plan. Deb Furgeson Construction fabricated the base. SOS! report lists media as rose granite, but an article in The News-Leader (Springfield, MO), Sept. 14, 1994 refers to media as pink concrete. Nearby plaque reads: In honor of/Officer Bob Reynolds/12 years our guardian/An example of a life/lived for others/Friends & Neighbors of/The Commercial Street/Historic District/September 10, 1994. IAS files contain a related article from The News-Leader (Springfield, MO), Sept. 14, 1994.
