Remarks:
Richard J. "Dick" Molamphy, 1922-1984, served as the executive vice president of the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce from 1967-1984. The sculpture and park are named in his memory. IAS files contain a copy of the park dedication brochure, dated July 13, 1990, which includes a statement from the artist linking the three elements of the sculpture and the three fountain jets to Molamphy's belief in involving the private sector, government and the Chamber of Commerce in community development. According to the artist, "the vertical structural members (of the sculpture) do not take short cuts, but rather change directions often to enclose and include all the pieces." IAS files contain transcription of two nearby plaques, one with text related to Molamphy; the other with a list of park donors.
