    Description: 
    A replica of an Egyptian temple, the mausoleum is a four-sided structure with two steps in the front and a tiered roof. Floral reliefs and a pair of papyrus columns flank the front entrance doors. A pair of reclining sphinx are installed on rectangular bases which protrude from each end on the front facade. The sphinx have lions' bodies, human heads and they wear long Egyptian headpieces.

    Remarks: 
    Major Amasa Brown Watson (1826-1888), a Civil War veteran, made his fortune as a lumberman in Muskegon, Michigan. He moved to Grand Rapids around 1881 where he invested money in several businesses, including the Fourth National Bank, the Grand Rapids Brush Company, and the A. B. Watson Veneer and Panel Company. His body was moved to the mausoleum at the time of his wife's funeral in 1915. IAS files contain related article from the Grand Rapids Press, Oct. 31, 1993.
