Formerly in the collection of Leggett, Harold G., Mr. & Mrs., Wakefield Road, Lynchburg, Virginia 24503
Remarks:
The sculpture was created by a Florentine sculptor for the American Art Foundry, following the design of 19th century English garden sculptures. It was a gift from the H. G. Leggett family in 1987. Harold G. Leggett was a member of the college's board, and his wife, Ruth, was an honorary alumni. The sculpture commemorates their three-month old baby, Jane, who died. The statue (which they named Jane) was kept in the garden behind their home in Lynchburg, before its gift to the College.
