Two shirtless men stand, pulling in tandem. Both are in work pants and shoes of the nineteenth-century factory worker or blacksmith. They are turned towards each other, leaning forward, the proper left leg of each extended forward and bent, the proper right leg of each extended back and straight. The proper left figure extends his proper left arm forward, his hand cupped in a gripping motion, as he holds his proper right hand in front of his chest. The proper right figure extends his proper right arm forward, hand cupped in a gripping motion, as he holds his proper left hand behind him. The figures stand on a short, inscribed, triangular platform with curved corners and a few rocks on top, that rests on a stepped base in a limestone plaza in the midst of a garden.

Leggett & Platt, No. 1, Leggett Road, Partnership garden, Carthage, Missouri 64836
Remarks:
Sculpture commemorates the partnership spirit of Legget & Platt, which was founded over a hundred years ago when J. P. Leggett teamed with his brother-in-law, blacksmith C. B. Platt to form a company "to make springs to sleep one." The artist was originally commissioned by Leggett & Platt to complete a smaller version of the sculpture. The smaller sculptures were first cast in 1987 and given out on a limited basis to select Leggett partners and customers. The artist was then commissioned to create the 1 1/4 life-size sculpture. IAS files contain a transcript of a nearby plaque. IAS files contain related materials from Leggett & Platt, including a transcript of comments made at the dedication ceremony.
