    Remarks:
The sculpture was installed by the Elmira Garden Club to honor the Langdon family and their son-in-law, Mark Twain. The sculpture is located at the former site of the Langdon family mansion, which was demolished in 1939; Langdon Plaza was built on the site in 1940. According to related article, concrete for the marker was poured by Gray and Rullo, members of the city's maintenance crew. A conflicting article states the marker is made of granite. The sculpture came under the administration of Elmira Real Property in 1983 when the company purchased the property. IAS files contain copies of related articles from Star-Gazette (Elmira, NY), Oct. 7 and 8, 1991.
