Description:
A uniformed Civil War soldier stands at parade rest holding the barrel of his rifle with both hands, the butt of which rests by his proper right foot. The soldier has a moustache and a long beard. He wears a round, flat cap and a belted coat buttoned at the neck, with a short cape thrown back on his proper right to expose his chest. On his feet he wears heavy work shoes. Attached to his belt on his back proper right is a cartridge pouch and on his proper left is a bayonet in its scabbard. Both the cartridge pouch and his belt buckle have "US" in bas relief. The figure rests atop a short, multitiered, polished base engraved with a cross on the front and inscriptions on the front and sides.

The monument marks the graves of John P. Kremer, 1839-1906, and his wife, Johanna Kremer, born in 1832, whose gravestones lie on either side of it. The monument commemorates the Civil War service of John P. Kremer.
