Remarks:
The monument marks the graves of Benjamin Knower (1775-1839) and Sarah Van Kleeck Knower, his wife, who died in 1833. Benjamin Knower was a hatter and State Treasurer. The relief portrait of Benjamin Knower was done posthumously. The relief was done by Erastus Palmer, but the monument may not have been done by him. The monument may have been replicated in 1931, and the original relief used again.
