Description:
A fountain with a decorated bowl supported by four children, set on a column in a large, circular pool. The children are nude and semi-nude and both stand and kneel. They hold various objects, including a rod and a sheaf of grain. The bowl is wide-mouthed and has banded rows of acanthus leaves, and art and egg with a plain rim. The fountain is set upon a three-tiered, quartered base with a fluted upper column. Names of the Santa Anita Handicap and Derby winners are inscribed around the pool's beveled rim.

Remarks:
The fountain was erected in memory of Kenneth R. Kingsbury, a charter Santa Anita Park director and a former president of the Standard Oil Company of California. It was originally in the collection of Lord Leverhulme of London, and it was purchased from Bert Crowther, Ltd. in England and installed at the newly redesigned formal gardens of Santa Anita Park in 1956. Crowther purchased the fountain in 1955. IAS files contain Santa Anita Park press release of Oct. 19, 1956; and correspondence from Bert Crowther, Ltd., dated Oct. 6, 1956; partial transcription of a name on the pool rim.
