    Remarks:
The idea for the plaques originated at least at early as 1939, when, according to their annual report, the Boston Art Commission gave approval for plaques to be placed in the new Paul Revere Mall At least eleven plaques were placed in the mall's brick wall in 1946. It is not clear which of the thirteen, now up, are the original. IAS files contain detailed measurements of each plaque and full transcriptions of each plaque's text. Arthur A Shurcliff designed the plaques in consultation with Henry R. Shipley, Mark A. DeWolfe Howe, and Robert S. Chase.
