Description:
A relief depicting whaling is located on the west side of a white marble monument. The relief shows whale ships in the offing; harpooned whales; whales being lanced; whale boats shattered by the whale; and men climbing to their broken boats and being rescued from the sea. The marble monument is surmounted by a broken ship mast. A cable is coiled around the mast. Harpoons, lances and blubber spades are carved in relief around the cap stone of the monument. The monument rests on a white marble base.
