(On front, beneath cross:) HORNE unsigned

A rectangular marble monument with a curved top and an Ionic column at each corner supporting scroll caps. On the front of the monument in relief are two palm leaves above a cross. Attached to the side of the monument is a standing Confederate soldier holding the barrel of a rifle in his proper left hand. The butt of the rifle rests on the plinth beside his proper left foot. The soldier wears a uniform which includes a brimmed hat, cape, boots with leg coverings, a belt with the letters "CS" on the buckle, and a holster and pistol. Attached to the back of the soldier's proper right leg is a tree stump which is in turn attached to the larger section of the monument.
