Description:
Full-length male figure stands on a tiered, mostly rough-hewn square base. The figure wears a suit and a long coat. His proper right hand is upraised and his proper left hand holds a document.

Remarks:
Monument honors William Hooper (1742-1790) and John Penn (1741-1788), delegates to the Continental Congress from North Carolina and signers of the Declaration of Independence. Their remains were interred at the site in 1894. A third delegate and signer was Joseph Hewes (1730-1779), whose remains were not found and therefore are not on the site. IAS files include an excerpt from "The Monuments at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park North Carolina," by Thomas E. Baker.
