    Remarks: 
    Gift of Miles S. Hencle in honor of his mother, Eliza T. Hencle. Mr. Hencle was a long-standing member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Syracuse Lodge No. 31. Prior to donating the sculpture, he purchased the Elks' burial plot on which the piece stands. IAS files contain an excerpt from "The Outdoor Public Commemorative Monuments of Syracuse, New York: 1885-1950," by Calvin M. Hennig, Diss. Syracuse University, February 1983, pg. 349-358.
