    Remarks:
The monument marks the grave of Edward Leo Hearn (1865-1945), a businessman in the wholesale shoe business who was a prominent Catholic layman during the early 20th century. He was a worldwide leader of the Knights of Columbus, having served as a Supreme Knight from 1899 to 1909. During World War I, he was appointed their Overseas Commissioner in charge of the Knights of Columbus relief efforts for the United States in England, France, and Italy. Hearn was made a Papal Count by Pope Pius XI. He was married to Mary Healy Hearn and was buried at her family's gravesite. The monument was cleaned and refurbished by the Historical Sites Committee of the Knights of Columbus around 1990.
IAS files contain an article from the official publication of the Knights of Columbus, Knightline (Feb. 1, 1990). IAS files also contain an obituary for Edward Hearn from The Daily Times (Mamaroneck, NY), July 18, 1945, and brief biographical information.
