Remarks:
The monument was originally located 50 feet west of its current position. It marks the spot where Brig. General Stephen H. Weed fell mortally wounded on July 2, 1863, struck by a sharpshooter's bullet fired from Devil's Den. Hazlett, kneeling over to assist Weed, was also felled by a bullet and died at the spot. The monument (referred to as MN 96) is on the National Park Service List of Classified Structures and is referenced in the Gettysburg National Military Park Archives, vol. 4.
