Remarks:
The sculpture is a memorial to the pioneering geologists who made this locality famous with their study of the Helderberg fossils. The memorial was erected by the State of New York and the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Tawasentha Chapter. IAS files contain the dedication program with a key to the fossils on the plaque. The sculpture was restored in the 1980s by Heidi Miksh, a conservator with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Waterford, New York.
