Remarks:
Commissioned by the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. This fountain is dedicated to Hugh D. Galusha, Jr., former president of the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis. Gunnar Birkerts also designed the Federal Reserve Bank building, which, in combination with the fountain, commemorates the 1855 completion of a suspension bridge crossing the Mississippi River at a short distance from the Bank. IAS files contain copy of newspaper article from Minneapolis Tribune, May 9, 1981, pg. 1S; and copy of unidentified excerpt which discusses the naming of the fountain.
